im going to mention some games in the context of what i liked about them. hopefull i can find a game [p2p or free or beta] that matches all the things i like with a minimum of what i detest [grinding]

my first mmo was last kingdom. it was a cool game for its time. it died tho. tongue.gif pay to play was in its infancy and once this game ended beta there was a better chance of walking on water than there was of me paying for it. anyway, the guild system was the best ive seen. officer posts titles, a seperate guild area accesable by warping to it, and considering it was an early mmo, the chat system was probably the most unobtrusive of any game ive played to date. this new trend of transparency window [resizable or not] is dumb and gets in the way. it also had a mining system needed for crafting. what set this apart was pk's in mining zones was non-existant. this was great. you simply cant level crafting when you cant afk without getting kilt. also, each crafter could make diff items, and didnt go on a linear progression where every level x crafter makes a level x item with xx stats. each item was unique. some better than others of course. rose and evergay could take a lesson from this.

some time later i found a few options, but no keepers until conquer. conquer had few hackers in the beginning and it stayed that way until we all figured out char files were stored locally and the hacking wasnt even hacking, it was modification tongue.gif this killed the game quicker than the lame statue battles. what i like about conquer most was the market system. yes, its artificially inflated, but it moved quickly and responded to supply and demand better than any other game. this may be more praise of its players than the system. also a centralized market is much better than noobs setting up shop in mob areas. guild system was better than some [most] but still not even close to last kingdom.

eudemons. sigh, another hacker fest, but now with pets. pets are cool. pets that fight and take your damage are cooler. pets with magic rock! pets that can be combined to sift out poor qualities, priceless. the game stunk. it was conquer with a facelift and less map areas. guild system got worse.

rose was cartoonish and childish, but i liked it enuf to build a level 90 dealer. then they did a server reset a few months prior to going p2p, and erased my hard work. dealers and specifically solo dealers, are the [were the?] toughest char to level in all my gaming history. losing him insured i would never ever play it again. plus, ks'ing was the worst ive ever seen. period. community was full of noobs and kids. to be expected judging by the graphics, but still. so what did i like? crafting took some skill. items were not automatically vanilla coookie cutouts. you had a chance to make something uber. market was ok, i liked the huts. bad part was they were everywhere!!

i like eastern games. i havent found one i like enuf to stick with tho. language barriers and poor ports to eng servers spell doom usually. but i like the themes, the stories and the quests. the graphics are usually superior as well, tho sometimes a bit too... well, buggy.

ryl, xiah. cool, but not enuf to stick with. ryl2 was actually very cool, but the inventory system was too clunky and items took up too much space. i liked the building of equip tho. that was fun. wish that system would find its way to other games.

evergay 2. graphics are good, maps are big. always something to kill. good drops are few aand far between and market is inflated. community is stupid and psuedo leetish. guild system is an improvement over all other games tho. except of course, last kingdom. parties are hard to come by and dont last long. characters and equipment is not unique enough.

so really what i want is a
1. fantastic guild system which is more than just wearing a name over your avatars head
2. immersive storyline quests that can be solo'd and do not include, drop off my love letter to my fat g/f in this town, then bring back her reply
3. active and friendly community.
4. great market and trading system that disallows spam trade requests
5. crafting system that needs skill, and generates unique itmes.
6. personal character development that results in a skill based toon with unique abilities/itmes/buffs
7. graphics dont need to be cutting edge, but i like a screen res that shows off my hardware. 3d preffered, but not necessary if game is great.
8. weapon customization that is not linear and not predictable
9. free or pay to play or beta
10. summon or pet abilities

not too much to ask, lol. any suggestions that involve games more immersive than "oh god, ill just grind to 95 tonight, then im done"

I think RappelZ suits almost all criteria.

i found rappelz when i found spacecowboy. it looked so promising, and i got to level 9 or so until the process of kill 2 things then sit down and rest for 5 minutes cycle got old. potions were to expensive in relation to drops. game wasnt fast enuf to keep me interested. also you had to make a day of just travelling to the mobs. not enuf to kill. maybe they changed some things and made it better in the past 7 months? on the positive sidee, the graphics were nice and the maps were expansive.

im trying mu rite now bcz of the thread in this forum. but honestly, i cant see why so many of you like it. buggy game client prone to crashing, poor interface, and billions of zen needed to buy anything worth having and a limited warehouse. im only level 35 and already had to throw out my entire warehouse 2 times. granted i was saving a few worthless things, but still. i hope none of you are paying for that

Ah, well.. As for the sittin/use of potions it kinda relies on partymembers, and for the traveling you should always rent a mount.
I was top ten on their new server bahamut but somehow I got bored.
Actually, im looking for a nice game myself now.
Granado Espada and 2Moons seem somewhat promising, but i mainly prefer games who are launching new servers or going open beta when I start playing.
If you happen to know anything about that, be sure to let me now.
It's half past 2 at night for me now, and im still waiting for this game called "goonzu" to be updated to the latest version.
Sigh..maybe i should go to sleep

lotro lotro lotro FTW!!

- rather good graphics
- every quest has something to do with getting involved with the storyline which makes sense.
- active and friendly community
- crafting systems generates unique items and item names could be customized too
- no PVP, but got a new PVMP function which players could roll as a monster and pit it against other players.
- very customizable character built and traits, etc (go read up its interesting)
- actually why not go over t the ebby and have a look for yourself in their forum, the open beta is starting in 2hrs 15mins from now

btw open beta starts today and will end on 24th april. if u pre-order getting their founders key, u can choose either $9.99 per mth special subscription plan or $199 lifetime plan after the official launch! and some other bonus package too!!

Maybe you might wanna take a look at Granado Espada.

1. I've not been in a guild in close beta so I couldn't comment on that.
2. Great quests which includes instant battle missions with NPCs or instant solo dungeon missions could be fun. Of course, the usual newbie orientation quests of bring this to that but was created in a nicer way. Not to mention, the usual kill X amount and gather X amount of this and that quests.
3. Take a look at the official forum, which currently is rather isolated because everyone is waiting for the open beta release in 17th May. http://ge.iahgames.com/forums/default.asp
4. Auction houses were rumored to be implemented later but I was shocked by this game's personal shop system. You start out with 4 slots (very little) to sell but you could use in-game gold to purchase extra slots up till unknown amount.
5. Items already have different possibilities of unique stats and crafting will be implemented in the open beta. How it will work, requires skills or not, is still unknown.
6. You do have a huge range of characters to choose from. From the start, 5 classes to select and further into the game (as early as level 5 or 10), you will be doing quests to gain RNPC cards. This will allow you to create NPC characters in your barracks and choosing them as a playable character to fight. RNPCs have different stats to your basic characters which might be pros or cons depending on your play style.
7. Graphics are great. Download the higher resolution movies from the official site and take a peep into the game play graphics. http://www.granadoespada.sg
8. There were currently 2 ways to customise the items. Enchanting of stats (which could add on or destroy all ststs I think) and the unual enhancement of +1 +2... I personally did not customise much during close beta so couldn't comment much on this.
9. Currently waiting for Open Beta on 17th May.
10. As far as summons are concern, basic characters can do missions to collect an item that will summon the stated monster to fight with you. The only "pet" system is with RNPC Catherine. She could summon up to 4 (I think) puppets to fight along side for approx. 10 mins. Another RNPC, Jack, could summon cannon turrets and regen/def up wands that is very much like playing WC3 tower defence, for approx 10mins as well.

The interesting part of Granado Espada is multiple character controlling. You can control one, two or max three characters at the one time. The characters are not mindless NPCs that run along with you for fights. You can command each to do anything you want, utilising almost the full keyboard. Each class have different skills and weapon combo to choose from. eg. Fighters can have dual swords, dagger, polearm, sword + shield, sabre or even 1 pistol + 1 sword.

Max level for the game is level 100 but gameplay doesn't ends there. You'll continue to have quests, veterancy skills and other functions to keep the gameplay fun. BTW, grinding is by far the most action-packed I've ever came across. Being "raped" by >10 mobs at the same time and attacking is extremely fast forward. It will keep your fingers glued to the keys and your eyes to stop blinking.
