This is my first attempt at a guide. With luck it will help somebody, if not.. don't worry.. all fees will be refunded.

When I first started rose I decided from the very beginning that I would be an Artisan.. unfortunately without alot of capital (zenni) or friends in game (I'm just a n00b after all) the only choice open to me was to in fact become a "Battle Crafter"

My first character progressed rather quickly and I was able to take her to level 38 in a matter of several days. Unfortunately as there is very little reliable information available on the net I made several mistakes in the build and decided to remake.

Before I remade, I first set a couple of rules for myself:

1. I would transfer no zenni or items from my previous character
2. I would not party until after level 50 (to prevent leaching)
3. If I could not reach level 50 in under 72 game hours I would delete and try again.

Fortunately I not only succeeded first try, I actually managed to do it in just under 50 hours. This guide is the culmination of what I have learned and with luck will prove useful to any/all players who are new to R.O.S.E. yet dream of being a fabulously wealthy Artisan.

I feel that the first thing one must do prior to ever gaining ones first level is to make a map of how to purchase skills and attributes. This is important in order to maintain the focus of the build and to prevent mistakes which would force one to either live with an inferior character or recreate. As the skills we pick will depend heavily on our attributes I believe we must first pick our skills and then allocate attributes in order to meet the need of these skills.

Theoretical "Best" Skill Table (Level 100+)
-------------------------------------------------
Combat Mastery: 17
Weapon Mastery: 20
Zuly Pink: 10
Sniping: 10
Heavy Shot: 10
Gem Crafting/Carts/Castle Gear: 5+ (Pick *one*)
Craft Mastery: 7-20 (As dictated by above skill)
Gathering 4

Wait.. Hold up... that looks like an ideal Burg build.. I thought I was building an artisan....

Well.. the fact is that the best burgs.. don't really use alot of burg skills. Most higher level chars agree that TKs are wasted points and Zuly Storm draws aggro of every mob within 20 meters... since the dealer battle cry is "Not in the face!" that dosen't work out so well for our class.

Add to that the fact that there are SO MANY dealers and artisans out there mass producing wings and masks and anything that will sell for 50-500k and you'll realize that crafting with con/sen under 100 is really a bum rap... you'll be lucky to recoup what you lost in materials. You simply can't compete with the profit margins of another (richer and higher level) dealer with sense of 200 churning out 15-20 6/5, 7/7, 15/x items for every one you produce.

On the other hand if you decide to pursue the "Battle Crafter" build you level "really" fast and you specialize in one field, and one field only. You don't even compete against all the
dealers->artisans... until level 70 your a dealer->burg.. you even make money as fast (or faster) than they do because of your high gathering and low expenditures (poison bullets are only 4z a pop)

After level 70 you have a HUGE advantage.. you're as buff as the best burgs in the game.. but you're about to have a whole lot more money than they do.. ya see no matter whether you chose gem cutting, carts, or castles: each is a VERY lucrative field that requires a pretty high level artisan to excel in... how many level
40-60 dealers do you see for every one level 80 artisan? Basically you just eliminated 95% of your competition.

Level 69 Skill Table
-------------------------------------------------
Combat Mastery: 10
Weapon Mastery: 10
Zuly Pink: 3
Heavy Shot: 10
Gathering: 4
Craft Mastery: 5 (This also gives max mana +150.. very useful)

(Prerequisites for Gathering)
Pack Mastery lvl. 3
Economy Mastery lvl. 8

And this should leave you with plenty of sp for level 70 when you get the Artisan class and can (hopefully) max out zuly pink (and thus combat mastery)

Well as noted previously ones attributes are dependent upon the skills chosen.. fortunately a Diamond(4) is a Diamond(4) and it dosen't care what your sense is... a sporty red cart is a sporty red cart, and I expect that a castle gear is a castle gear... Just to emphasize this "Sense is required for standard artisans as it allows them to create 15/x's, 7/7's, 6/5's, and what not BUT for this specific build sense ONLY adds damage and criticals".

That means we get to spend our attributes in the way which is most optimal in order to maximize our damage.

Gun damage comes from

con*0.5 + Dex*0.4 + Sen*0.1

That tells me that under normal circumstances I would pump concentration *except* under the following two conditions

1. If the price for a point of dexterity is less than 4/5 of the cost of a point of concentration, I should instead pump dexterity.

2. If the price for a point of sense is less than 1/5 of the cost of a point of concentration, I should instead pump sense.

And that takes care of pumping attributes =)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Until level 15 you can reset your attriutes.. that means from level 1 to level 10 YOU WILL ONLY PUMP STRENGTH, nothing else.

General Things to keep in mind:

DO NOT BUY EQUIPMENT
(there are exceptions but when in doubt, don't buy it)

DO NOT SELL ANYTHING YOU BUY
(common sense right? kinda.. don't sell food1 so you can buy food2.. eat what you find only buy as a last resort.. Don't sell vital jams ever... Don't sell blood charms ever...)

DO NOT BUY CRAP
(What's crap? good question... if it's something you wear, and it's in a shop.. good bet it's crap...)

DO NOT SELL THE FOLLOWING TO VENDORS:
Iron Thread, Bird's Feathers, any equipment with a (3) or higher after it or any equipment that has +15 attack power, +20 hit rate, +5 con/+6 sen, +7def/+14mdef, +7str/+7dex, or any modifier that seems "a little too good"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

lvl 1-4: do every quest at the newbie area.. these quests are important because #1 they get you to level 4 just as quick as not doing them but more importantly they give you free food until level 15 or so.. free food is *GREAT*

lvl 5 - 10: You will find a detailed guide to doing the "Luna Quest" on roseguru at Luna Quest you'll be doing all of part 1 for these 5 levels and if you just kinda zone out and worry about doing the quest you'll miraculously be at level 10 when you finish BTW if you happen to be at level 9 when you're supposed to go talk to Maed to get those items first kill a couple of jellies and hit level 10 before talking.. otherwise you get crappy level 7 items instead of level 10

Lvl 10: walk north a couple of screens and get to the wonderful town of Zant/Jant (it's apparently both) talk to the mayor and reset your points from pure strength to half con, 40% dex, 10% sen.. talk to the guy beside him about becoming a dealer, and then go talk to the guy at the warehouse to get the first part of the dealer quest. Now talk to the guy beside him (materials vendor) who will also be selling you your dealer books later and sell all those spiffy materials you got from killing choropies and pumpkins and whatever also any extra equips you may have pulled since at low levels monsters tend to drop items alot more than they do later on. this should give you a fair amount of cash (maybe 20k) walk over to sperro and buy a bubble gun and 999 poison bullets and equip both... things are about to get hellah fun =)

level 11-14 You're probably going to "accidentaly" get level 13-14 just because of all the bees and needle bees you're going to have to kill to get the stingers required for the dealer quest. Don't worry.. it should still be going "really fast" since poison bullets are gonna make every bee a 2 or at most 3 hit kill.. doubtful they can even fly to you in time to hit you

level 14 - 18 go to zant and talk to the guide at the left of the southern entrance to get the formic quest. head east of zant/jant and go to hill of wind... walk north but stop just short of the northern bridge and you'll see a bunch of formics.. slay them.. they're good exp and good money.. in fact.. keep slaying them even after they turned green by this point you should already have gathering level 3 so you'll still get drops as if they were yellow and you'll be making mad money off the quest since you're throwing all that sp into economy mastery (read as charm which increases payouts from quests)

level 18-24 go ahead and cough up the money for the next gun (air rifle maybe?) buy a backpack (the level 18 one) and stock up on poison bullets (1500 maybe) and kiwis (100) you're about to make a long trip and not come back for awhile. Go back to hill of wind but this time go to the far northeastern corner... you're going to be killing apiculture lekis and the whole family of daplings until level 24 or so.. have fun =/

level 24: back to luna.. you do remember the luna quest right? the woopy king is on the eastern side of zant and since you use a ranged weapon this is actually fairly easy.. just make damn sure you get first hit and you should get it after 2-3 kings.

Level 24-26: Still doing the luna quest now we get to hunt for claws and stingers.. easy enough.. the claws come from fighter lekis which you will find north of the lake in elveroon desert.. no one really hunts them there because they fight the juicy aquas you'll be fighting later.. so you should have your pick of fighter and ranger lekis. you can get the stingers pretty damn quickly too.. in the north eastern corner of elveroon desert are 5 bee pops and a TON of turtles.. kill the turtles while you're waiting for the bee pops and time will fly by. BTW Master Queen Bee Bees are NOT YOUR FRIEND.. they'll be red now and evil and mean and you should run.

26-30: well.. you'll no doubt have completed the quest already but stick around.. those turtles are nice exp also start killing the master queen bee bees I told ya to stay away from earlier.. they're still mean and nasty.. and few people jump in to swarm them like a standard boss BUT occasionally they drop butterfly wings.. WTF?!? butterfly wings btw sell for 55,000z+ BTW you did upgrade to gloria gun at level 29 right? Awesome.

30-37: Well with luck you'll have pulled at least 1 if not 2 pairs of butterfly wings so this part is gonna be a cinch.. otherwise it's going to suck.. badly. Ya see.. the only way to do this part fast is to buy silver plated bullets in junon polis. With silver plated you'll litterally mow down the aqua warriors before they can get to you and even land a blow.. the problem is you're gonna be spending >85 zenni a mob that you kill on average (6 bullets at 10z a piece plus a done meat at 77z every few mobs) and even with gathering 4 you won't quite be able to recoup that since you'll pull stupid mana and stamina balls occasionally at best you'll break even but odds are you'll lose 10k a level so approximately 70k here. On the upside dealers deal CRAZY damage.. you can earn these 7 levels in 3-3.5 hours tops.

BTW: the second you get level 30 you need to finish up part 3 of the Luna quest since that's where your level 30 eq comes from =)

38-42: Iron rifle and hallelujah!!! Go back to poison bullets for a bit. Both gardeners and warriors are green to you now so you're best off hunting moldies.. however before you do ya need to join the merchants guild so you can get paid for your work. You will want to kill either just east or just west of the southern exit to lake junon.. (on the lake junon side) there will be a whole bunch of goldmine/coalmine/captain moldies in those areas.. don't tackle more than one captain at a time and you should be good.. coalmines will give you union points, captains will give you gold for the luna quest.

42-47: Forest of wisdom.. ok you want to follow the nw trail until you come to a plateaux with 30-50 people crowded on it.. that's the first guardian tree spawn.. and the shitty one.. keep following the trail and you'll curve around a mountain and get to a smaller field.. there's 2 guardian tree pops and a grunter king pop here.. you'll be able to get both the guardian fruit and the flame pop taken care of here.. you also have an infintismily small chance of popping a unique off the grunter king.. I don't think it will happen.. but if ya do, it's worth 1mil or more at least. Once again the trick is to #1 get first hit, #2 stay alive #3 be targetting the beasty as he dies.. yeah.. it's kinda cheating but since we have no AOE skill that means ya might want to target the tree first.. run like hell until he's at about 1/2 health then come back and take pot shots at his back.. those scarabees maul us.

47-50: Clowns (Ranger and "Clowns" not the warriors).. keep following the trail you were on... ya can't miss them... nor can they miss you apparently.. fortunately if you're wearing a high enough charm mask combined with your charm from econ they shouldn't be hostile to you.. really makes this part surprisingly easy.

And there you have it.. 50 levels in under 50 hours. While I haven't done it yet (I actually wrote this guide immediately after level 50 as a kind of break/reward) I suspect that from here it's pretty straight forward.. clowns to level 52, goblin B1 from 52 to 54 (a net loss of money but for 100k or so you can buy 8 blood charms and a bunch of vital jams (told ya not to sell the ones ya found) and wipe out whole floors of goblin jars it should be good for 2 free levels and a fair number of powders and low essences) and at 54 you should be able to take on beach of genzai.

I hope that this proves helpful,
Maeleson.
