Hello.
This is a quick guide to give you a few hints through the Hawker-specific quests.
There's a few reasons why I wrote this:
1) The information seems pretty hard to come by at the moment. And when you do find it, it can be awfully vague.
2) I needed a medium for my rant which is...
3) The mess-ups that I made (and I hope you don't) due to translation errors - or "Engrish". I'll come to this later.
Right, well, you're going to become a Hawker. Bow (Ranged) or katar (Melee), it really doesn't matter as far as this guide goes. Whichever one you choose is up to you.
So enough of me babbling on, here's a small guide for you.
Level 1 - 10
-----
You're a Visitor. You have no choice, so pump everything into strength (You'll see why in a sec). Every stat on a level-up: Strength.
Once you get to level 10, go to see Warren. He is on the South side (6 o'clock) of Zant (sometimes refered to as Jant)
Select the Hawker class and he'll send you on a mission to collect an item from a Sanon.
Sanon is at the ressurection point on the East side (3 o'clock) of Valley of Luxem Tower.
Speak to Sanon and he'll tell you to go and kill a few monsters. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was some 30-levels ago. They're either Mother/Spotted Chiropies or Flames. Either way, it's dead simple and on Adventurer's Plain. Remember to keep pumpking Strength for the moment, but DO NOT go over level 15. I'll explain in just a sec.
Once you get the items Sanon asks you to get, go back and speak to him. He'll give you the item in question for Warren.
Head back to Warren and he'll complete the Hawker mission.
Congratulations. You're a Hawker.
Now speak to Cornell who is stood next to Warren and ask him to reset your stat point. You can ONLY do this before level 15. Have your stats reset and then start pumping the stats that you want to have as a Hawker (Dex mainly. There's other guides for this.)
Level 20 Hawker Mission
-----
The level 20 Hawker mission starts by talking to the Gypsy Jewel Seller, Mina. Mina is located on the South side of Zant (5 o'clock).
Mina's jewels have been stolen. Oh dear. And you're the one to retrieve them. Again, I'm sketchy on details, but there's enough info here to see you through.
He'll send you to the Hill of Wind chasing Tody.
Head East to the Hill of Wind. When you're there, you'll want to head for the village here. To get to the village, go East onto the t-shaped bridge, then South and you'll see it on top of a hill.
Once at the village, speak to the Little Street Vendor, Mile.
Mile will give you some information. In a nutshell "Dalpings looks suspicious!" So kill some Dalpings. They're the snails that are usually located North-East (2 - 3 o'clock) of the village you're in.
Once you've collected all the jewels head back to Zant and talk to Mina again. He'll give you some info concerning missing necklaces and "Suspicious" Beetle Bug Fighters.
... off you go, back to the Hill of Wind and kill the Beetle Bug Fighters and collect the necklaces.
Back to Mina once more and he'll offer you one of two weapons.
Both of them are very nice. One's a katar (melee) and the other is a bow (ranged). Choose the one that suits you and hurray, mission complete.
Level 30 Hawker Mission
-----
This one really annoyed me. And was reason No.3 why I wrote this guide in the first place. So, onwards...
To start this mission, speak to Carrion the Armour Seller in Zant (3 o'clock East). He'll give you 10mins to kill 10 Aqua Captains. Nearly impossible. You can try if you like. I failed miserably. When you run out of time, speak to him again and he'll give you 15mins (I managed it in 12). Or if you don't make it in 15, speak to him a third time and he'll give you a final chance of 30mins.
I pre-prepared myself for this. With the Return to Junon scrolls I had from the main quest in stock, I purchased a Return to Jant/Zant scroll, stocked up on kiwis and then spoke to Carrion.
As soon as he gives you the 10/15/30mins to kill the Captains, use one of the Return to Junon scrolls, then walk to the Lake of Anima, kill 10 Captains and then use a Jant scroll back, and speak to Carrion again.
This is the annoying part that I was stupid enough to fall for.
Carrion offers you, upon completion, a "White Hand Bow (Atk+3)" or a "Lake Hand Bow (Atk+3)".
As I'd never seen a Lake Hand Bow before, I chose that one.
What I actually got was a "Rake Hand Claw". A katar. No real use for a Bow-based Hawker, I assure you. Don't fall for the same "Engrish-jib" as I did, please.
The reason I advise you warp to Junon, then go to the Lake of Anima to kill Captains is for a few reasons:
1) It's the quickest way to get to Captains
2) Elveroon is CONSTANTLY packed with people. To make the kill count, you've pretty much got to get the first hit on the Captain (though there's been a few times when I haven't), you've also got to live through the fight. When there's as many people as there is in Elveroon, this is bloody hard!
Also, even on a pretty good PC (3GHz, GeForce 5900XT etc. etc.), running the game on 800x600 windowed, the frame-rate is HORRIBLE. Especially if an Aqua King turns up and the proverbial sh*t hits the fan.
Right, well, that's as far as I've gotten so far.
I'll continue to update this when I reach higher levels and more info comes to light.
I hope you find this useful. If not... more fool you for reading this far.
