"World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). In World of Warcraft, thousands of players adventure together in an enormous, persistent game world, forming friendships, slaying monsters, and engaging in epic quests that can span days or weeks.
World of Warcraft differs from other MMORPGs in many ways. Players complete quests and experience the world at their own pace, whether it be a few hours here and there or entire weeks at a time. Additionally, our quest system provides an enormous variety of captivating quests with story elements, dynamic events, and flexible reward systems. World of Warcraft also features a faster style of play, with less downtime and an emphasis on combat and tactics against multiple opponents."
Character Development
A player is permitted 10 characters on each server, choosing from between 10 races and 9 classes (although not every class is avaiable to each race).
Each time a character levels up they are awarded attributes relevant to their class automatically, the player also receives a talent point each level after level 10 which they are free to allocate to the talent tree of their choice. Players can choose skills from any of the 3 talent trees for each class enabling a unique character build.
The items a character chooses to wear/wield also contributes to his/her uniqueness by giving the character stats. There is no death penalty in World of Warcraft other than losing some durability on items.
Social/Class/Guild Structure
There are two factions in World of Warcraft, The Horde and The Alliance, each faction has its own unique 5 races, and characters are not permitted to communicate with characters on the opposing faction.
There is a guild system in World of Warcraft, only members of the same faction can be a part of the same guild. You can choose to solo play or join a party/raid with others to complete quests. A party is made up of 5 members or less and a raid is more than 5 but no more than 40 members.
Combat/Skills
Each class has its own unique set of skills and talents which are improved or tuned by the player using talent points and/or training.
Crafting Professions
Each character is allowed to choose two professions as their main professions from a list of 10, along with any or all of the 3 sub professions of cooking, fishing and first aid.
Quests
World of Warcraft is in essence a quest based game, characters receive substancial experience points and rewards for completing quests, it also helps new characters to navigate the world on a logical route.
PvP
A player can choose to play on a PvE server where the PvP is completely optional and only achievable by both players consenting, or within the battlegrounds for that realm. They can choose to play on a PvP realm which means that all areas are areas in which you can attack or be attacked by the opposing faction, as well as in the battle grounds for that realm.
The only way you can attack a member of your own faction is to request a duel, this can be done anywhere in the realm, but if the other player does not accept it is not possible to just attack.
Battle grounds are specific instanced areas designed for the PvP motivated, you can select to go into a battle ground which has 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 or the larger grounds which have 10v10, 15v15 or 40v40. You play alongside your faction members against the opposing faction, players receive rewards for the number of kills they make and whether they win or lose in the match.
Lore
Four years have passed since the aftermath of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and a great tension now smolders throughout the ravaged world of Azeroth.
